The Last Broadcast

I went to the Doves show for the times I wanted to see them when I was younger. I like their new songs, but britpop feels aged to me now. It’s hard to get excited about old sounds. I went to be comforted by sounds I grew up with. And so did half the city. The venue was packed, and even though their live version of There Goes The Fear doesn’t have the same magic of the recorded version, the show was like a big hug of 90s guitar rock.

One thing I loved; the new songs were some of the best sounding of the night.

Classic Rap Albums

You can debate whether The Source has held on to any of the credibility they once had, but their “5 mic” rating was once the ultimate pinnacle of hip hop achievement for an album. Mental note, make sure I’ve spent ample time with everything on the list in wikipedia.

N.E.R.D. 2002: Live Music Done Right

In a world where sounding like crap and touring around playing 20 minute sets will get you shine (who am i talkin bout??!), here’s a breath of fresh energy for all those who get tired. N.E.R.D. are still doing it to this day (although with some fresh members onstage).

Oh and I picked up that Nylon Guys issue with Pharrell. That magazine is pretty weak, but the interview was good.

So what’s the best and worst thing about being Pharrell Williams?

“The best thing,” he says, almost whispering, “is that you get to do what you wanna do.” He pauses, and wrings his hands together. “The worst thing…” He stops, leaving what feels like five minutes of absolute silence. “The worst thing is that so many people don’t realize that that’s possible.”
